COVID rocked everyone’s world in March of 2020, and its persistence still creates anxiety and difficulties for everyone. I transitioned to online lessons in March, and they went a thousand times better than I ever expected. Some of my students even seem to do better with online lessons than in person. While there are some hurdles, I’ve found that the essential elements remain the same. We can still listen to each other play, we can still watch hand position and technique, we can still do flash cards, and we can still talk about the music over Zoom. Because of this, I am still teaching via Zoom until the vaccine has been widely implemented.
I know that the uncertainty of school schedules are very hard on kids right now. I don’t envy their position. But I will say that having an activity like piano can be a grounding force in their lives. I fully believe that music and music lessons help people develop their emotional capacity and resilience. Music can be such an important outlet for feelings of frustration, loneliness, uncertainty, and powerlessness. And having a regular schedule of practicing can provide a familiar safety net of comfort and a sense of control.
In short, music is so important, right now and all the time. Call me at 864-569-1492 or send me an email at [email protected] if you have any other questions about online lessons, or anything else.
